And they continue to evolve. The brand recently announced the Dior by Mystery Ranch —  a collaboration for the Parisian fashion house’s Summer 2023 men’s collection.

Partnering with Mystery Ranch for the first time, Dior’s new backpacks and bags combine the formal with the informal, the practical with the purely aesthetic, and outdoor culture with the demands of luxury. Available on February 16, 2023, exclusively in Dior retail locations worldwide and on Dior.com. Mystery Ranch told us they are thrilled to share the details of this unlikely collaboration.

Inspired by Christian Dior’s passion and attachment to the countryside, the earth and “simple and natural things,” Kim Jones, artistic director for Dior Men, sought a partnership with Mystery Ranch to bring authentic outdoor design and functionality to the men’s summer collection.

“This collaboration is a testament to two companies that care deeply about their crafts and the communities they serve,” said Dana Gleason, founder of MYSTERY RANCH. “Working with companies like Dior is the ultimate recognition that we are doing what we set out to do: To design and build great packs and bags specific to the mission. The Dior collection is a thing of beauty. Mission accomplished.”

Drawn to the aesthetic and technical aspects of the Mystery Ranch Y-shaped 3-ZIP closure system, Jones and the Ranch design team built the bag collection around the Mystery Ranch GALLAGATOR backpack “elevating functionality to the ultimate fashion statement.” The pack offers immediate access to its multiple interior storage spaces, and compression straps on the front of the bag allow for even volume adjustment. It comes with an essential detail – a detachable, water-repellent hooded cover.

The epitome of clean, functional design, the 3-ZIP closure makes accessing pack contents as easy as 1, 2, 3. Created by Gleason in 2005 to quickly access gear while backcountry skiing, the 3-ZIP closure system has become a brand signature with an iconic look for both the urban and core outdoor user.

Gleason continued, “Born out of aggravation and necessity, the 3-ZIP design serves a unique set of families. It’s been adopted by climbers, hikers and backpackers, and now Paris.”

The Dior by Mystery Ranch collection features the Gallagator backpack, Saddle Bag, Belt Pouch (also a 3-ZIP design), Wallet, and Tactical Belt, in two colorways, featuring a CORDURA re/cor fabric that is entirely recycled, resistant and durable, and embroidered with a leather crest intermingling the seal of the two Houses.

The Saddle Bag, an emblematic Dior model, is reinvented in a version designed for the outdoors, with an ingenious double-zipped compartment. It has a nylon jacquard shoulder strap, an additional strap for attaching various accessories, an aluminum “CD” buckle, and a second, more technical one that closes the flap.

Dropping next is the Mine77 x Run DMC collection available to Burton First Chair Loyalty Program members on February 14 for 24 hours of early access shopping before the official launch date on February 15. The Mine77 x Run DMC collection embodies hip-hop and snowboarding’s intertwined history of performance and culture and includes bold pieces like a Gore-Tex Tracksuit and hardgoods featuring turntables and tape cassette graphics.

Last but not least, the Burton x Run DMC collection will be available to First Chair Loyalty Program members on February 20 for 48 hours of early access shopping before the official launch date on February 22. The Burton x Run DMC collection celebrates the co-evolution of pioneering vision and style that Run DMC brought to hip-hop and Burton brought to snowboarding. This collection includes pieces inspired by Run DMC’s signature look, like the high-contrast Run DMC Frostner Jacket, a throwback hip pack, and a Process snowboard featuring a portrait of the group as base and topsheet graphics.

While this rapid-response rescue technology has been used for years in winter sports gear — such as ski and snowboard jackets and boots — FORLOH is the first hunting brand to adopt the technology for use in the hunting market.

The RECCO reflector is a passive transponder embedded into a garment and enables someone to be more quickly found in the event that they get lost or injured while outdoors. Rescue professionals have been utilizing RECCO handheld detectors for avalanche rescue since the early 1980s and the system has grown to a global standard rescue tool used in 900+ locations in 28 countries.

The newly introduced RECCO SAR helicopter detector is a larger detector unit. It is mounted under a helicopter and enables rescue teams to vastly reduce the amount of time it takes to search large areas. FORLOH’s integration of this search technology comes as RECCO is working with search-and-rescue teams in the U.S. and around the world to expand use of the RECCO SAR helicopter detector that allows helicopters to rapidly search for people on the ground across vast areas. By pioneering this technology in the hunting industry, FORLOH is working with RECCO to help increase the margin of safety for consumers.

“The very nature of hunting means the hunter is attempting to go undetected to their prey, which means hunters are extremely difficult to find in the event of an emergency or accident,” said Andy Techmanski, founder and CEO of FORLOH. “Given RECCO’s push to expand this technology with the helicopter operations of search-and-rescue teams, we were amazed to learn that it hasn’t yet been integrated into hunting apparel, and we jumped at that chance. Being prepared is one of the basic requirements when planning any hunt, and the integration of RECCO reflectors into our gear gives our customers and their families back home an added margin of safety and additional peace of mind.”

RECCO technology is a patented technology that allows professional rescuers to perform rapid searches for missing people in the outdoors year-round. It is a two-part system. Rescuers use RECCO detectors to locate a RECCO reflector which is carried by the user, integrated into clothing or other gear.

“Unlike snowsports which is often enjoyed within a resort, wearing bright clothes on clean snow, backcountry hunters are more often at the bottom of valleys or on steep, treed sidehills, wearing camouflage and far away from other people or help,” Techmanski said. “It’s a no brainer to put this technology into apparel for hunters and, since our gear is built to be versatile for many kinds of outdoor pursuits beyond hunting, other backcountry enthusiasts.”

In the last two years, as its new helicopter-based detector unit has come into use, RECCO has worked to get that technology into use with five search-and-rescue teams in North America, including Two Bear Air, a philanthropy-funded organization that provides aviation support for search and rescue teams in Montana, Idaho and eastern Washington. In Europe, a dozen search and rescue teams are using it, and RECCO is working to facilitate its adoption by more SAR teams in North America and globally. Along with western Montana, SAR teams in Salt Lake City and Seattle, as well as Vancouver and Canmore in western Canada, are equipped with helicopter-based detector units. More than 90 SAR teams in North America and hundreds worldwide already are equipped with the hand-held RECCO units.

“Working with FORLOH, we are excited to enter the hunting market, a completely new segment for us, and to help make hunters searchable with the help of RECCO technology,” said Fredrik Steinwall, CEO at RECCO. “The outdoor market, where we have been on the market for a long time and are well known, is closely related to the hunting community.
