When one thinks of the people protecting the waters that surround New York City, the Fire Department of New York is probably not the first group to come to mind. Living in NYC it’s easy to forget that, unless you live in the Bronx, you live on an island. Manhattan sits just off the southern tip of New York State, sandwiched by the Hudson and East rivers. Those rivers spill out into the New York Harbor, home to Staten Island, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty. Brooklyn and Queens occupy the easternmost part of Long Island. They also border the East River, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Long Island Sound, and are home to countless canals, bays, harbors, and more.

Just as they do on land in the Five Boroughs, the FDNY is there, safeguarding all of New York City’s waterways, ready to answer the call from their station in Brooklyn’s Navy Yard. Aiding them in their work is an impressive fleet of patrol and emergency response vehicles, tools, and even Mustang Survival Classic Flotation Bomber Jackets.

Earlier this year, we were fortunate enough to spend a rainy winter day with them on Marine 6 patrolling the New York Harbor, and to get to know the ships, gear, and great people who keep NYC’s waterways free from harm for all of us. Thank you to the FDNY for having us and for all that you do to help ensure we can continue our urban explorations safely.

The Mahindra Roxor New Look

The updated Roxor’s appeal goes beyond its styling. Mahindra’s wee four-wheel-drive utility vehicle benefits from improved off-road performance, thanks to shorter new 5.38:1 axle ratios that replace the prior model’s 3.73:1 gears. With the 62-hp turbodiesel 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine’s mighty 144 lb-ft of torque available from as low as 1,400 rpm working in tandem with the standard five-speed manual or available six-speed automatic transmission and two-speed transfer case (and 9 inches of ground clearance) the Roxor is a proper rock-crawler.

Unfortunately, off-road is where it has to stay, as the $16,599 Mahindra, which tops out at 55 mph, is not street legal. While the Roxor’s refreshed face might help pacify FCA, it won’t prevent authorities from citing individuals who dare to drive the little trucklet on public roads.

2020 Ford Bronco

Ready, Set, BRONCO! We are really excited that Ford is bringing back the legendary Bronco in 2020. The new released model will have a boxy shape like the classic Bronco as well as retro styling for some added aesthetic. The Bronco will have removable doors in your choice of a two or four door. The roof will also be removable. Ford will also offer a hybrid powertrain on the new Bronco. We can’t wait for the final debut of the Bronco! More information should be coming out very soon. In the meantime, check out this restored Bronco.

BUMO Motorhomes

We’re loving this overland build by German company, Bumo. Utilizing real wood is a not often seen like this, but we absolutely love it! Bumo’s natural construction is more than just wood facade too. The company says that it spent a lot of time finding the right combination of natural materials to maintain the perfect interior climate. The floor and roof are insulated with sheep’s wool and the walls with wood wool (wood shavings) before being covered by stone pine interior walls. The company even says the pine has the ability to lower the heart rate, eliminate bacteria and promote general well-being – we’re not sure about all that, but the freckled wood definitely looks gorgeous. This Tactical Urban Vehicle built by Rezvani was designed to be the most capable vehicle both on and off the road. The TANK has a 6.4-liter 500-horsepower V8 engine, high ground clearance and aircraft forged aluminum custom wheels. Activate the four-wheel drive when you need and de-activate when in normal driving conditions for efficiency.

The TANK has rear-opening doors, like we have seen on a few other futuristic vehicles, to have easy access to the interior. Also, it looks bad ass. From the seats to the dashboard, the details on the interior are pretty amazing. One other feature that is probably more fun to have than necessary is the Thermal Night Vision system by FLIR. This displays heat signatures and standard night vision.
