During times like we are experiencing right now we have lots of questions. When will I be able to travel to Europe? Will the power go out and all hell break loose? When can I go to my favorite bar again? It’s the ups and downs of doom thinking to when will life go back to normal again thinking. Either way, it’s always a smart idea to have portable power. For adventures or in your home to help ease the doom feeling. I’ve used portable power for 10 years now and although I use it on every camping trip, it’s really the assurance that it gives me that is the best. Battery technology has gone under rapid innovation in the last 10 years so I was really excited to see Goal Zero launch their new Lithium Yeti 500 Power Station. A few years ago it was mostly lead acid batteries, similar to your car battery, that was the option and lugging those around was a pain – in the back.

The new Yeti 500 has 20% more power into a 20% smaller and lighter shell than its predecessor. The power stations can keep all your small to medium size devices and appliances charged. So good for neighborhood movie nights (when that can happen again) or going full glamp style at the campground. The Yeti 500 has AC, 12V, USB and a 60w USB-C ports. The options to recharge the power station is with solar, off your wall plug at home or a 12C car charger. Available for $699.

Sherpa Power On-The-Go

We get really excited when Goal Zero launches a new product! They are the Apple of the outdoor market. Their new and improved Sherpa 100AC is our favorite new versatile power pack. With an integrated AC, USB, as well as a built in Qi Wireless charging pad, this is the ultimate on-the-go charger. There is a 94.72 Wh internal battery that is airline compliant which is really helpful when charging on the plane or when you get to where your trip takes you.

The two USB-C ports are 60W each which provide rapid recharging for laptops, phones and more. The AC port is 100W and can recharge your DSLR when you are in those remote places. For phone recharging, the USB port is 2.4Amps and if you want to go tech with wireless charging then go ahead and live in the future. The display provides detailed information on each of the ports when recharging up.

They didn’t stop there. There are also 4 rugged cables included with this power pack. Lightning, Micro USB, USB-C, and a USB-C to USB-C. You can count on the Sherpa 100 to recharge your phone up to 10 times, Tablet up to 3 times and your laptop up to 2 times.

The Ultimate Portable Basecamp

Barebones Living was started to support the founder, Robert Workman, humanitarian efforts to help people provide for their basic needs. First he did it with solar power via Goal Zero. The next step was to provide clean, modular and sustainable ways to have shelter. Thats when Barebones started. The shelters that Barebones designed were modular, resistant to soaking out (unlike some canvas tents we have seen before) and durable. These shelters ended up being perfectly designed for glamping, basecamps and for any portable shelter that is needed on top of the humanitarian side.

One of the shelters Barebones has is the Outfitter Tent. I have stayed in the Outfitter Tent on a few different occasions. One of the nights it was snowing with 40-mph gusts and it held up with no problem. We had a cast iron stove inside, connected to the integrated stove port, and it was up to 80 degree F inside when it was easily 25 degrees F outside. I’ve stayed in this tent in the summer as well and the screen windows kept a good airflow inside the tent which kept the temperature at a comfortable level.

The material for the shelter has a custom weatherproof fabric, screened windows and doors for ventilation, and front and back doors for easy access making this tent a perfect home away from home. The Outfitter Tent comes with a detachable all weather cover for when the weather takes a dump on you.

This tent can handle 1,000 lbs. of snow on the roof, 90-mph winds when properly staked and can sleep up to 6-8 people. A great addition if you are looking to optimize space is the Cam-O-Bunk cots. The footprint is a 126 sq. ft and the roof gets up to 9ft at the tallest point. The Weight is 218 pounds that packs into 2 different carrying bags.

Goal Zero crushing it with their new Lantern

Portable power-house Goal Zero just launched a new lantern that you can purposely crush to save space in your pack. This lantern is price and user friendly, which we appreciate because we want 30 of these for the Vanish Treehouse. There is a mini solar panel built in for recharging or you can charge via micro USB for those cloudy days.

There are 3 light settings and on the lowest setting the Crush Light can run for 35 hours. The light output on high is 60 lumens. If you are looking to add some ambiance to your backyard chill zone or camp ground then there is a candle flicker mode. We love to see outdoor product innovation and Goal Zero is one of our favorites.
